ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Higher Education Center is pleased to make the following
announcements:

1) Call for Programs: 2009 National Conference on the Social Norms
Approach

The National Social Norms Institute at the University of Virginia and
The BACCHUS Network are now accepting program submissions for the 2009
National Conference on the Social Norms Approach, scheduled for July
12-14, 2009, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The submission deadline is March
6, 2009.

The conference planning committee invites submissions focused on, but
not limited to, the following areas: innovative strategies,
methodological issues, capacity building, reaching intended audiences,
multicultural and cross-cultural issues, and outcome data/analyses. All
submissions should be relevant to the social norms approach, addressing
health, safety, or social issues such as alcohol use, smoking, sexual
assault, and seat belt use.

Proposals will be judged on clarity, relevance, methodological
soundness, and contribution to the field, as well as considerations of
achieving a well-balanced conference schedule that reflects the
diversity within the field of social norms. The most highly rated
proposals, based on selection committee review, have generally those
that present outcome data from research-based implementations of the
social norms approach, especially in innovative areas. Presenters should
assume that conference attendees understand the basic concepts of the
social norms approach and therefore need not incorporate reviews of
these in their presentations. Presenters should assume that at least 15
minutes would be spent addressing questions.

For more information, and to download the submission form, please visit
the National Conferences section of the National Social Norms Institute
Web site: http://www.socialnorms.org/Resources/resources.php.
