The Higher Education Center is pleased to make the following
announcements:

1) CASACONFERNCE - Sobering Up the High Society: Substance Abuse and
Public Policy

The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA) at Columbia
University will hold a CASAConference, "Sobering Up the High Society:
Substance Abuse and Public Policy," February 14, 2008, in the Barbara
Jordan Conference Center, at the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation, in
Washington, D.C.

The conference will show how substance abuse and addiction causes and
aggravates many of the nation's social problems. Four panel discussions
will be moderated by top national journalists and are entitled:
America's Deadliest Epidemic: Substance Abuse and Healthcare Policy;
Criminal Hangover: Substance Abuse and Criminal Justice Policy;
Collateral Wreckage: Substance Abuse and Social Welfare Policy; and It's
All About Kids.

2) CALL FOR PROGRAMS - NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON SOCIAL NORMS APPROACH

The National Social Norms Institute at the University of Virginia is
pleased to announce its Call for Programs for the 2008 National
Conference on the Social Norms Approach. The conference, which is
co-sponsored by the BACCHUS Network, will be held July 20-22, 2008, at
the Hyatt Regency, San Francisco Airport, in Burlingame, California.

The conference planning committee invites submissions focused on, but
not limited to, the following areas: research and data on effective
social norms programs, innovative strategies to reach intended audiences
and applications of the approach with public health and safety issues
beyond alcohol (e.g., smoking and sexual assault). The deadline for
submissions is March 21, 2008.
