2) NEW AMA PROGRAMS AND ARCHIVED WEB CAST NOW AVAILABLE
The American Medical Association (AMA) recently released two new
programs on excessive alcohol use among patients as part of the online
"Educating Physicians on Controversies in Health" series. These free
videos update physicians about the challenges and controversies at the
interface of clinical medicine and public health - such as "binge
drinking" - and offer potential strategies to address these issues in a
clinical setting. Each five to ten-minute video is presented in an
unbiased format and is designed to initiate candid discussion among
physicians.
For more information, and to view these programs, please visit
http://www.ama-assn.org/ama/pub/category/15369.html.
The AMA has archived the Web cast and expert panel, "Medical Schools,
Students and Physicians Address Young Adult High-Risk Drinking," from
October 23, 2007. It is available at no cost at

3) NIDA SUMMER INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) is pleased to announce that
the application period is now open for summer research training
opportunities at its Intramural Program facility in Baltimore, Maryland.
The internship program is part of NIDA's commitment to introducing the
science of addiction to some of the best and brightest young scientists
in America.
Students who are accepted to the program will work closely with some of
the world's leading addiction scientists in an environment devoted
exclusively to leading biomedical research. Examples of research
projects include drug-seeking behavior in rats, smoking cessation,
genomic studies for nicotine dependence, and the effects of
methamphetamine and cocaine on the brain.
Prospective candidates should apply electronically via the Internet. The
application deadline is March 1, 2008.
