The Higher Education Center is pleased to make the following
announcements:

1) FUNDING AVAILABLE FROM SAMHSA FOR 15 CAMPUS SUICIDE PREVENTION GRANTS

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)
is soliciting applications for grants to prevent suicide on college
campuses. This program is designed to assist colleges and universities
in their efforts to prevent suicide attempts and completions and to
enhance services for students with mental and behavioral health
problems, such as depression and substance abuse that put them at risk
for suicide.

Approximately $1.5 million will be available to fund up to 15 grants.
The average annual award amount is expected to be up to $100,000 per
year for up to three years. The actual award amount may vary, depending
on the availability of funds. Applications are due January 18, 2008, and
eligibility is limited to institutions of higher education.

2) 29th NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON LAW AND HIGHER EDUCATION

The Center for Excellence in Higher Education Law and Policy at Stetson
University College of Law and the National Association of Student
Personnel Administrators are co-sponsoring the 29th National Conference
on Law and Higher Education February 17-19, 2008, in Clearwater Beach,
Florida. There will also be a pre-conference February 16, entitled
"Campus Security 2010" and a post-conference February 20, entitled
"Future Trends in American Higher Education Law and Policy." Early bird
registration is $625 and ends January 11, 2008. Student and group rates
are also available.

The Conference is designed to facilitate interdisciplinary discussion
among attorneys and a wide variety of higher education professionals and
provides unique insights into cutting-edge law and policy issues. This
year's programs will cover updates and information about alcohol and
other drug prevention, Clery Act, FERPA, employment law, Greek life,
immigration law, judicial affairs, higher education legislation, higher
education litigation, and study abroad.

3) NCAA CHOICES GRANT CALL FOR READERS

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is looking for
individuals willing to read and score proposals submitted for funding
through the NCAA CHOICES Alcohol Education Grant. Reader applications
are due February 15, 2008. Individuals from institutions applying for a
CHOICES grant are not eligible to serve as readers.

This year's CHOICES grant proposals are due February 16, 2008, and will
be sent to readers by March 1. Readers' scores and comments are due by
April 1. Last year's readers each received five proposals to review and
score. The NCAA does not provide monetary compensation, but rather sends
each reader a thank-you gift.

4) AUDIO CONFERENCE - TABLE-TOP PLANNING AND BEYOND: EFFECTIVE PLANNING
& PREVENTION FOR CAMPUS CRISIS

PaperClip Communications will present an audio conference, "Table-Top
Planning & Beyond: Effective Planning & Prevention for Campus Crisis,"
Tuesday, November 13, 2007, 2:00-3:30 p.m. Eastern. Dr. Gene Zdziarski
will provide listeners with practical strategies and valuable resources
that will assist them in creating, evaluating or enhancing their current
institutional crisis plans. There will also be time allotted at the end
of the conference for call-in questions from listeners. The registration
fee is $199 per phone line.
