Peer Reviewers Needed
The U.S. Department of Education's Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools
(OSDFS) is currently seeking qualified peer reviewers to read and
evaluate grant applications that will be submitted under the Alcohol and
Other Drug Prevention Models on College Campuses Grant Competition.
Reviewers selected by the Department will read and evaluate up to 6
grant applications, post scores and comments online over an 8- to 10-day
period, and participate in two mandatory conference calls. This review
is scheduled to occur from April 18 through April 28, 2007, with the two
mandatory conference calls scheduled for:
1. April 24, 2007 from 1:00pm-2:00pm (ET)
2. April 26, 2007 from 1:00pm-3:00pm (ET)
The Department also is seeking qualified individuals to perform site
visits as part of this competition's peer review process. Up to 10 site
visits will be scheduled from May 7 through May 18, 2007. Each site
visit is 1-2 days in length with two visitors per site.
In anticipation of this review, the Department is requesting prospective
reviewers to send an e-mail message indicating interest and a copy of
their current resume to Rich Lucey in OSDFS at richard.lucey_at_ed.gov. In
your e-mail message, please indicate if you are available for the online
review, site visits, or both. Qualified reviewers for this grant
competition MUST have expertise and experience in alcohol or other drug
abuse prevention, program implementation, and/or program evaluation,
especially as it relates to college students.
Prospective reviewers must fully participate in a phone-based training
to be considered for the review. The training will be offered on the
following dates:
1. April 4, 2007 from 2:30pm-4:30pm (ET)
2. April 5, 2007 from 2:00pm-4:00pm (ET)
Individuals selected to serve as site visitors also will be required to
participate in a separate phone-based training on one of the following
dates:
1. April 23, 2007 from 1:30pm-2:30pm
2. April 24, 2007 from 1:30pm-2:30pm
Confirmation of reviewers is based on the number of applications
received, appropriate mix of reviewers' qualifications, availability,
and other factors.
Please be aware that if you were involved in the writing of an
application or are named in an application that is submitted under this
competition, and would have a financial interest if the project is
funded, you have a conflict of interest and may not participate as a
peer reviewer under this grant competition.
The honorarium for reviewing up to 6 applications, according to the
established review schedule, is $800. Individuals who serve as site
visitors for this grant competition will be paid an honorarium of $250.
If you have any questions or need additional information about this peer
reviewer opportunity, please send an e-mail message to
richard.lucey_at_ed.gov, referencing Potential Peer Reviewer (84.184N) in
the subject line.
