The U.S. Department of Education announced today the 2005 Grant
Competition to Prevent High-Risk Drinking or Violent Behavior Among
College Students. The goal of this grant program is to provide funds to
develop or enhance, implement, and evaluate campus- and/or community-based
prevention and early intervention strategies to prevent high-risk drinking
or violent behavior on campus.

The Department anticipates awarding an estimated 20 new awards, at an
average level of approximately $100,000 to $150,000 per year depending on
the scope of work. Projects will be funded for one year with an option for
an additional year, contingent upon substantial progress by the grantee
and the availability of funds.

The application deadline is March 25, 2005; please see the Federal
Register, the Department's Web site, or the Grant Opportunities page of
the Higher Education Center's Web site (http://www.edc.org/hec/grants/) for more information.
