Dear Colleague:
In light of the current influenza vaccine shortage, the National
Immunization Program (NIP) at the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention, in cooperation with the American College Health Association,
the Association of American Colleges and Universities, and the American
Association of Community Colleges, is contacting college health services
programs who may have received inactivated influenza vaccine (Fluzone)
from Aventis Pasteur to make sure they are aware of the interim
recommendations issued by the CDC for influenza vaccination for the
current season, (http://www.cdc.gov/flu/protect/vaccineshortage.htm). Additionally, the NIP would like to determine 1) if the programs have
targeted their vaccine to priority groups as identified by the CDC interim
recommendations, 2)
whether the programs are aware of the FDA authorization to redistribute
vaccine to alleviate shortages (http://www.cdc.gov/flu/professionals/vaccination/fdaredistribution.htm), and 3) if the programs have excess vaccine and have been able to
redistribute it to priority groups.
In order to obtain this information, we have created a brief web-based
survey that we would like for you to complete. It is located at the
following link, (http://www2a.cdc.gov/nip/flu_survey/flu_2004.asp), and should not take more than 5 minutes to complete. We are asking for
contact information solely for the purposes of survey follow-up if needed.
All identifying information will be kept confidential and any
presentations of the results of the survey will be in a summary format. We
believe the best person to complete the survey would be someone associated
with your school's student health services program. We would like to have
the surveys returned by December 1. If you have any questions, please
contact Norma Allred, National Immunization Program, naa5_at_cdc.gov.
