In order to streamline our process and minimize the number of duplicative
stories we post, the Higher Education Center compiles news reports
concerning college student alcohol, other drug, and violence-related
incidents. The following digest contains a summary of each incident and
offers a website URL where more detailed accounts of what occurred can be
found.

1) "A Hofstra University football player yesterday pleaded guilty to
raping a fellow student on campus in October as they were walking to their
dormitories from a local bar..."

2) A University of Georgia student was recently "charged with underage
possession of alcohol and possession of a fake ID..."

HEC/News is a conduit for press coverage of AODV issues in higher
education. Negative coverage of these issues is pervasive and may serve to
reinforce exaggerated misperceptions of actual substance use norms.
Awareness of this should strengthen our resolve to advocate for news that
focuses on the responsible majority of college students.
