<p>2. The California State University Receives National Campus Safety Award

The California State University system has received the nationally
prestigious Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Award. The CSU received the honor
for creating a training video showing how to comply with federal laws on
reporting campus crime statistics, as well as for developing a
comprehensive system-wide alcohol policy.

<p>3. CSAP Redesigned and Retooled Tips for Teens

In an effort to alleviate the difficulties surrounding talking to teens
about alcohol and drug use, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services
Administration's (SAMHSA), Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) has
redesigned and retooled its popular prevention series, Tips for Teens.

<p>4. New Addition to the NIDA Web Site

NIDA has launched the companion website http://www.marijuana-info.org/ to
present science-based information about the effects of marijuana use on the
body and brain. This site joins NIDA's other companion web sites,
http://www.clubdrugs.org/ and http://www.steroidabuse.org/.

HECNews is a conduit for all press coverage related to alcohol,
other drugs (AOD), and violence at U.S. colleges and universities.
Negative news coverage of these issues is pervasive and may serve to
reinforce exaggerated misperceptions of actual substance use norms.

Our awareness of this news coverage should strengthen our resolve not
only to address AOD problems on campus, but also to advocate for news
coverage that draws public attention to the responsible majority of
college students.
