Robert Chapman and I are looking at a pilot program with peers doing the
intervention with randomly selected first year athletes as a
preventative intervention. One qualifier, these peers we will hope to
use will be those in the Addictions Counseling program for which Robert
is the professor leading the charge and doing the training. We can keep
folks posted and we may be doing a write up as we finish the project.

Subject: peer-delivered BASICS
Good morning!
We're investigating the feasibility of implementing BASICS using peer
educators as the facilitators. The target population is our judicially-
mandated students. Is anyone implementing BASICS (or similar programs
with motivational interviewing techniques and personalized feedback)
using peers?
If so, what challenges have you encountered?
We are looking at delivering the program to individual students
(instead of to groups of students) and having weekly supervision
meetings with the 5 to 6 peer educators as well as weekly one-on-one
supervision meetings with each peer educaotr. We hope to receive
approval to allow the peer educators to earn one academic credit for
the BASICS implementation training.
I'm happy to summarize any responses and send back out to the group.
Have a great weekend!
