Is this really the resolve of the AOD educators in
Higher Education!? Have you become this shallow
minded and short sighted? Personally, I am more
dismayed by the response of, questionably, intelligent
people to the recent posts than I am the posts
themselves. Anyone that has been involved in a
listserv must realize there are things beyond the
control of the listserv or the list participants.
Good lists are able to survive the flames, the
garbage, and the unwanted chatter. Bad lists are full
of lurkers, whiners, and people who bail on the first
sign of controversy or adversity. Drughied, has
become a bad list. Not because of the recent posts,
but by the lack of quality posts of the majority of
its members.
You try to teach your campus community about character
and perseverance: To ask for more in life than a
cheap fix. Yet, it seems as if many on this list want
that same cheap educational fix with no effort or hard
work.
Can we you really expect something for nothing?
How many names have I seen over the past year offering
new ideas? 10 people? Are you serious??
I left the field a couple of years ago due to family
decisions. However, I wanted to keep a foot in the AOD
HEC world by lurking on this listserv. I just had to
write with my dismay.
I hope the hard core people of the list survive the
hard core posts. I know the 10 people who post on a
regular basis will stick around but what about the
rest of you? Will you continue to whine and expect
free information without providing or provoking
quality discussion. Will you continue to look for the
cheap high or will you take a few minutes during the
week and become a contributing and responsible member
of an educational community?
In the words of Robert,
My thoughts, what do you think?
