In the past year we have contracted privately for a psychiatrist for 2 hours
every two weeks. First we approached someone who was not connected with the
hospital, and that didn't work out. the person who comes now, on a private
basis, also works in the local hospital. Our school is 4800 students, 2600
of whom are on campus. Our community is 24,000. So I suggest seeing if any
of the hospital docs see patients privately. It has been a wonderful "in"
at the hospital, and she enjoys getting out of the hospital setting and
being in a warmer, friendly setting.

Hi All,
We have been trying for the past year or so to get funding for psychiatric
coverage. Ideally we would like to have a psychiatrist come on campus for
an hour or two, either once per week or every other week. I was given some
funding for this in the fall. A local hospital runs our health center and
we are affiliated with them for our nursing degree program. I was told that
I had to approach them first with an offer to cover our psychiatric needs.
They were slow to give me an answer and then told me they could not come on
campus. By the time I got this answer the nation's economic problems hit
and since I did not already have psychiatric coverage in place this money
was cut. The deans I report to are behind this but we have to sell it once
again to the financial people. It would really help to be able to know what
other colleges similar to us have in place for psychiatric coverage. We are
a small (about 1300 with plans to go up to 1700 in the future), liberal arts
college located in a medium sized metropolitan area (in eastern
Pennsylvania) with two hospitals with psychiatric clinics close by. We are
classified as "very selective". If anyone already has some data on this or
knows of a source I can go to, please let me know. I apologize for the
cross postings. Thanks in advance for your help.
