I do a workshop on spring break locations that emphasizes maps, state laws,
etc, to the most popular sites for SIUC students, Florida, Louisiana,
Texas, Colorado, etc. Included are the drinking, drug laws, and a little
info about what it is like there from people who have gone before. I
include information about Mexico, since Reynosa and Matamoros are
convenient border towns and most likely visited if students are planning on
going to Mexico. It is never preachy and simply info sharing- students
love the maps with directions, estimated travel time, best routes,
etc. This info is easily accessible from any travel/map program like
AutoMap, or off the internet from a variety of locations. it is good to
find students who are willing to share about their experiences, especially
if they had to pay fines, tickets, etc. to give any idea of some the
financial risk possible. Include the other state laws, speed limits, DUI
laws, etc., also easily obtainable for your area. Safe travel!
