I am so sceptical of this study! "Early Onset Alcoholism"? Come on. With no
clear definition of alcoholism, what is "early onset alcoholism"? The last
time I looked in my DSM-IV, there was no Dx of alcoholism, so to have early
onset alcoholism is quite confusing. With my clients I have seen what may be
"early onset alcoholism" go into remission on it's own. This guy also cited
some genetic studies where he stated that alcoholism genes have been
identified. I must have been absent on the day these came out. They are
constantly being alluded to, but I can never find the definitive studies. I
am not a big fan of Stanton Peele's but I have respect for him as a
researcher. He will have a field day with this study. Ron Roizen, what do
you think? I suspect drug company funding of this study and a hidden agenda
of selling drugs to those not willing to critically examine this piece. The
idea of putting a kid on a drug because he "may" develop alcoholism is as
appalling to me as putting a child on a neuroleptic because he "may" develop
schizophrenia. By buying into this crap we are becoming a part of the
problem and not the solution.Angry? You bet!
