I was floating around a new site for University of Vermont students
(groovyuv.com) and stumbled into an article about the history of the 21
year old drinking law. It's really just a reader's essay that's been
posted to the International Youth Rights Alliance webpage, but I would
be interested to see if any of you have any comments, particularly if a
"college webpage" is willing to sponsor such pages, and whatever comments
you may have about the accuracy and/or history of the legislation as
described here.

And I'd also be interested in your opinions about the seemingly
pro-alcohol consumption content in the "his" section of
http://www.groovyuv.com
I personally find it interesting myself that to consider students
themselves actually construct this page (and rumor has it in the next year
they are trying to make the page much more used than previously) are
using substance abuse to attract readers. Very interesting at this
particular school, because according to Welcher over 70% of us are "binge
drinkers." It seems like in this case binge drinking is not only accepted
but "cool" which may perhaps encourage other students (particularly
freshman?) to engage in binge drinking when they may otherwise engage in
other activities. This is a phenomina I'm personally trying to understand
myself in terms of combatting the problem when explaining it to my
colleages in the student government association. Our whole pitch is that
administration "has no clue" why the problem exists and therefore it's an
interesting take on why our problem exists.
