Robert & Corey I agree with both your comments. I think the other
aggravating thing this article demonstrates is the double meaning of binge
drinking. Harvard's definition speaks to what some (I wish/hope most) of
use AOD folks on campuses are re-terming "high-risk" drinking. The other
definition, which certainly created some problems for me when I first was
using "Binge", relates to the ide of binge episode as in "going on a
bender." So, even as the author is generalizing the H-R behavior of "binge
drinking" to most college students -- she also mixing the definition, eg.
the Buena Vista man.
So I guess in addition to educating our students about H-R drinking & our
campus administrations, students, and communities about Social Norms, we
can not neglect educating OR re-educating about this double definitions and
how they are not exactly the same -- though clearly both behaviors are
High-Risk.
