We are in the process of reviewing alcohol policy at Loyola University
New Orleans. Throughout this process we've considered the research and
literature on effective prevention and policy practices from various
sources including the Higher Ed Center's document on "Setting and
Improving Policies for Reducing Alcohol and Other Drug Problems on
Campus".
There has been some debate on this campus lately concerning the role of
the university in disciplining (usually through some kind of
remediation) off-campus drinking-related violations (e.g., when a
student is cited for underage drinking at a bar and this matter is
brought to the university's attention).
I'm curious about whether your university addresses off-campus
violations of this nature. Consider, for example, situations in which a
student is arrested for a DUI or other kind of illegal activity as well
as other less serious cases involving alcohol. How are these issues
handled if at all?
Thanks in advance for your feedback.
